What is Zonta? In a nutshell, it is an international organisation for women who work in various ways to raise the status of women worldwide.

Our motto: Empowering Women Through Service & Advocacy

How? Well, in lots of ways:

Holding tried and true and innovative functions to raise money for local and international charitable organisations.

Zonta advocates internationally and nationally against poverty, violence against women and girls including trafficking, and for basic human rights. Zonta works closely with the United Nations on all these issues.

Hands-on help and assistance for charitable and community agencies.

Zonta provides a raft of grants and scholarships for women and girls both internationally and locally.

Zonta is a great forum for women from all walks of life to come together for a common purpose.

Your role in the Zonta Club of Christchurch-Canterbury
When you join Zonta you entrust to become a committed and involved member. You will immediately be assigned to one of five committees where your skills will be invaluable to its current projects. Our Club meets on the first Monday of each month, and each committee meets once a month also. Around a dozen members also form the Club’s board and all members are expected to eventually serve on the board and if requested, take up key positions.

The annual subscription is $225.00 with a joining fee of $30.00

Conventions and Conferences:
Every two years there is an International Convention somewhere in the world, and in the years in between, each country – or “District” to give the Zonta term – holds a national conference. The 2017 District 16 National Conference is being held in Christchurch in September.
