Zonta ladies paddle in dragon boating Regatta to raise awareness for Zonta Says No to Violence against women

It was a great day of paddling for Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women at the Aoraki Open on Sunday, February 18th at Lake Ruger.

Paddling in a 1000km race 3x 460m and 3x 250m was certainly a test for our endurance. By the second to last race we had lifted our pace and just about perfected our timing.  We got second in a B final.

It was a great day of fellowship with our teammates who could take respite in our new gazebo donated by a club member.

We wore our new T-Shirts sponsored by Golden Homes Christchurch proudly displaying their logo along with the  Zonta Dragons logo and the Zonta Says No To Violence Against Women message. We flew the flag and had the Orange Lady proudly displayed.

All in all, we felt we achieved our goal of lifting the profile of Zonta, having fun, and keeping fit doing it.

The event was the South Island Open Dragon Boating Regatta comprising of 20 teams  of 10 and  20. 15 women’s  and 5 mixed. Corporate, High school and Social teams. Approximately 170 women and 120 men.  Plus spectators.
